Reviews and ratings

How to review a game, why each version has its own reviews, how the overall rating is worked out, and invitation-only games.

Updated Nov 3, 2026

Players rate games from 1 to 5 stars and can add a few words. Reviews belong to a version of a game, which keeps ratings fair for games that get fixed.

Who can review

You can review a game if:

  • you are logged in with a verified email address,
  • your account is at least a day old (this makes review bombing harder),
  • you are not on the game's team, and
  • the game is live and the team has not turned reviews off.

Some games are invitation only. For those, only the people the studio invited can review, and their reviews carry an Invited reviewer badge so readers know the studio chose them.

Writing a review

On the game page, choose a rating, add a comment if you like (plain text, up to 2,000 characters, no links) and press Post review. You can review each version once. You can change your review later or remove it. A moderator can hide a review that breaks the content policy; see Reporting content.

Why versions matter

Every time a studio puts a new build live, that build starts with its own reviews. So an old bug does not sink a game that has been fixed, and a new problem is not hidden by old praise. You can look at the reviews of one version, or at all of them.

The ratings you see

  • The current version. The headline number is the rating of the version that is live now.
  • Overall. This counts the reviews of every version, but newer versions count more: each version counts half as much as the next newer one, so recent work matters most. A version with only a few reviews also counts a little less than one with many, so one review cannot swing the result.
  • Hidden reviews never count.

The Top rated sort on the Games page uses the rating of each game's live version.

For studios

You can turn reviews off for a game, or limit them to people you invite. See Review and comment settings.
