Playing games

Every game runs in your browser. How to start one, what the labels mean, and how games are kept safe.

Every game on indiedev.games runs right in your browser. There is nothing to download and nothing to install.

Start a game

Open a game from the Games page and press Play. The game loads inside the page. Use Full screen under the game if you want more room. Some games work with a keyboard, some with a mouse or touch, and some with a gamepad. The game's tags say which.

What the labels mean

  • Age label. The developer chooses one of Everyone, Everyone 10 and up or Teen (13 and up), and it is checked when the game is published. Games for older players are not allowed on the site.
  • Uses AI content. The developer says the game contains output from generative AI, and which kinds: graphics, sounds, or text and dialog.
  • Official release. The developer says this is the game's official release page.
  • Autosaves. The developer says the game saves your progress by itself.

If you would rather not see games that use AI content, you can hide them from the filter on the Games page, or save that choice in your account settings.

How games are kept safe

  • A game runs in a sandbox, apart from your account and from the rest of the site. It cannot read your username, your email address or anything else about you.
  • Games cannot reach the internet, so they cannot send your data anywhere. Because of that they also cannot run hidden crypto miners.
  • Every new build of a game goes through automatic checks before it goes live, and a moderator looks at anything the checks flag.
  • We do not add tracking to games. A game may do things of its own, and its developer is responsible for that.

If something is wrong

Use the Report this game link at the bottom of the game page. See Reporting content.
